How to Make an Awesome Weight Loss Binder – #WeightLossWednesday Week 5

74.3K Flares 74.3K Flares ×

Since starting my weight loss journey one month ago, I’ve lost -20.6 lbs. My weight loss seems to have slowed down just a bit, which is to be expected when incorporating regular exercise into the picture after so long (lactic acid, new muscles being used/built up, etc).

I’ve also been traveling the last few days and eating out at restaurants way too much than I feel comfortable with. I know that’s had an effect on this week’s weigh in numbers, for sure. Damage control time!

The first twenty pounds came off so quickly that I just have to remember to stay as determined as possible and not get frustrated when the scale is slow to budge.

What makes it easier for me, is again, noting how much BETTER I FEEL every day now than I did five weeks ago. I can feel myself getting stronger and smaller — but these things DO take time. I know I didn’t gain all the weight over night and neither will I be able to lose it that fast either!

This week, I’ll be talking about two of my very best weight loss aids: my weight loss binder and my fitness tracker wrist band + app.

Why & How to Make an Awesome Weight Loss Binder

  • To keep you organized.
    • Organization is really important to your weight loss success, believe it or not. You want to make sure you’ve got everything you need all in one easy to get to place.
  • To help hold you accountable.
    • Food journaling is VERY important, whether you’re following a certain weight loss program, counting calories, maintaining your desired weight, or on a different diet plan – you always want to make sure you log each and every thing that you put in your mouth. Be honest! You’re only cheating yourself.
  • To keep you motivated and focused on your goals.
    • One exercise that I really recommend is to make a list of every single thing you are looking forward to when you reach your goal weight.
      • For example, I’m REALLY looking forward to buying a whole new wardrobe because nothing I own fits me anymore.
  • To give you easy access to all the resources you need to succeed.
    • I have my diet plan in my binder with me at all times. It’s literally my weight loss Bible so I need it handy. I’ve also taken digital photos of the important pages of my book and have them on my phone with me. This makes it easy when I’m at the store, grocery shopping, or in a restaurant to know what I can and cannot eat.
    • In my weight loss binder, I also have my food diary section. I custom-made and printed myself out a template of my eating plan so I know what I’m supposed to have each and every day. The better you plan your food, the easier dieting is!
      • It’s so easy for me to keep on track because I’m able to simply plug-in what I ate to fulfill my required daily servings of:
        • protein
        • veggies
        • fruit
        • starches
        • snacks
        • water consumption
        • vitamins and supplements
        • etc.
      • Here’s my free food diary template to get you started with creating yours.
  • To make you HAPPY (when you look at it).
    • This one is SUPER important. Your weight loss binder is going to be your best friend throughout this process. Have fun with it! Enjoy the process.
    • Splurge on a nice binder that makes you happy just by looking at it. I got mine at Target and absolutely love it. I take it with me where ever I go.
    • This binder is a symbol of so many good things in your life. It’s a symbol of the hard work and commitment you’re putting in to your goals. It’s the embodiment of your journey. This binder should definitely make you smile whenever you see it or utilize it!
  • To help you make good decisions.
    • On my daily food diary sheets, I also track: my weight, my blood pressure, the date and number of day of my program it is, and what week I’m in.
    • It’s super encouraging to be able to go back and see how far you’ve come and the progress you’re making on your weight loss journey. Just remember – KEEP GOING. You WILL get to where you want to be!

I hope these tips help you in creating your perfect weight loss binder. The beauty of it is it’s YOUR creation. You know what best to put in there to keep you inspired, motivated, and on track.

UP by Jawbone Fitness & Health Trackers

Another huge help to my weight loss plan and efforts is my UP by Jawbone activity tracker and app. Check for a full product review by Money Saving Parent here and special thanks to the MSP team for gifting me with this great little product!

jawbone review, up by jawbone review, weight loss aids, weight loss tools, helpful tools for weightless

What I love about this tracker is that it’s a pedometer and sleep tracker all in one, plus more. One of the biggest challenges I’ve been dealing with is trying to sleep better and get more good rest. UP tracks your deep and light sleep levels, as well as how many times you wake up during the night.

It’s so fascinating and tells you a lot! The app is available for your iPhone and iPad. It presents the data with pretty, visually appealing charts.

My only complaint is it doesn’t track weight or allow you to set your weight loss goals as well as, its main competition, (the FitBit) seems to do

I highly recommend investing in one of these guys if you’re serious about learning more about your daily activity patterns. The goal of these products is to help you see how you’re doing so you can set goals and improve your daily life style.

See you next week on Weight Loss Wednesday! Remember – you can also follow my journey on Instagram. Please feel free to get in touch with me in the comments section. I’d love to hear from you – especially, if you’re on your own weight loss journey. My goal is to help encourage and support each other! So please join the conversation!

I really like your idea of the binder! I’m not very creative though. Do you have templates of yours we could print out and make our own, or picture examples of your different sections?

Love this I am looking at starting losing weight. I am setting my goals and mapping out what I want to do as for exercise. I was just looking at these gadgets in walmart. I was thinking of the fib it since weight loss is not easy for me to track. I also started a blog this week and hope to maybe start writing about weightloss.

    Hi 🙂
I stumbled upon your blog through pinterest and love it! Never thought about a binder before, but have used journals in the past. I like the idea of a binder much more as I can customise it to suit my needs and I have always been a stationary geek so it also appeals to this side of me 🙂 I have already set one up (bright pink) and am in the process of decorating the inside with pictures to keep my going visually. Thank you, this has given me the kick start I needed for my new healthy lifestyle.

I just had my twin girl and boy 2 1/2 weeks ago and I have been doing research on working out and losing weight so I can get into shape once the doctor gives me the green light. I didnt gain much weight with my pregnancy but I was a bigger person before I got pregnant and want to lose the weight. This really caught my eye. I think the binder is an awesome idea and i cant wait to use it! Thank you so much for posting this I cant wait to use your idea for my Weight loss journey.

I am just getting started on my journey since I’ve been asked to be in a wedding in May. It’s my goal for the year to become healthier, more fit, and to be able to be more active. I think I am going to create the binder idea along with friend accountability.

Love this. I am always horrible at sticking to diets. One because I am a very picky eater and too it’s hard for me to stay motivated to it when my boyfriend can eat whatever he wants and not worry. So hopefully creating a binder will really help me!!! I really need to stick to it!!!!!

I use a Happy Planner for my weight loss planner. I LOVE IT! There is also a Happy Planner for weight loss. It has made all the difference in the world. I highly recommend using some sort of planner / journal. I’ve learned so much and continue to learn what works for me and what doesn’t. ( I weigh heavy for about a month, and then my weight drops) Now I know not to get upset when I see a higher number on the scale. You will find a planner/ journal will teach you so much. Thanks for all the great ideals. Good luck everyone on your weight loss journeys. Please add what works for you and what you learn from your journals.

      Hi Rhonda,

Thanks for writing in. I’m definitely going to have to check out these Happy Planners and see what they’re all about. It’s awesome to hear that they have one solely dedicated to weight loss. I couldn’t agree with you more, tracking is everything! 🙂

All the best with your healthy living and weight loss!
